I didn’t get a chance to post this stuff yesterday

I had written (and posted) something Friday night about how awesome my friend SF is…but of course Tumblr ate it.  I’m going to try this again…

So, as you all know, I’ve had a shitty week or two dealing with all of the LM school drama.  Friday I got this gift certificate and note in the mail:

She had a local gourmet cupcake place send me a gift certificate for a 1/2 dozen cupcakes!  I’ve been wanting to try this place since I moved here, but only seem to drive by when they are closed.  Yesterday the little guy and I walked there (it’s about 4 blocks from my house) and picked out some cupcakes.  We each had one and they were delicious!

I also worked on some things yesterday to try to help the little guy behave better (though I must say that he’s been fabulous in the new class and he’s been doing pretty well at home so far).

I saw this idea (to make a calming jar) on Pinterest .  I never would have done this stuff before but I’m willing to try anything at this point.  So, in an empty OJ bottle we mixed water, food coloring, and glitter (he picked out the colors).  The idea is that when he’s angry or upset he can shake it and watch all the glitter settle…and hopefully in that amount of time he’d calm down (and avoid those awful tantrums).  He actually used it once yesterday (on his own-I didn’t tell him to go do it).  He stomped his foot and yelled “I’m angry”, immediately gave me this odd look and ran into the other room to shake it.  When he was done he came back and had a normal conversation with me.

We also went to the dollar store and picked out a bunch of little toys to use as rewards when he gets a certain number of star stickers on his chart.  It’s just a bunch of crap, but whatever works ;)

We also worked on our puzzle (for the 3rd day in a row) and we’re almost done.  I think this may be my 80-year-old activity.  I could do puzzles all day every day.  Growing up we would have a card table set up all the time with a giant puzzle in progress.  My mom, brother, and I would work on them together.  So, now I want to go buy a card table because he loves puzzles too (and he’s damn good at them!).

About Me

I'm a single mom, graduate student, and now 30 (holy crap!). I originally started this to talk about my (new) experience with online dating/dating in general, but it has morphed into a more personal blog with online dating stories sprinkled throughout. (You can check out Who's Who below)

Feel free to ask me anything, give advice, or comment on anything I post :) Or email/gchat: gradmom33@gmail.com

Also, this is a secondary blog, so I can't follow you!
